Rome, The Eternal City, for Honeymoons
2019 was without a doubt the most life-changing year I've ever had. In March 2019 I started a new job with my current law firm (I'm a full-time attorney too). In May 2019 I married my husband. In August 2019 we left Cincinnati for a 3 week honeymoon which began with a week in Rome, followed by a week long cruise through the Mediterranean (I highly recommend Celebrity Cruises), and then ended in the port city of Venice for several more days before returning home. That trip was amazing for many reasons. My favorite reason, though, is that we came home expecting our first baby. Rome will always be my first recommendation on romantic honeymoon locations.
Rome is about as romantic of a city as is possible. The art, architecture and history literally surround you at all times. So what are the best activities in and around Rome?
1. Coliseum -- No trip to Rome is complete without a trip to the coliseum.
2. Vatican City, including St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel -- Tours of the Vatican are fascinating no matter what your religious beliefs. Pro-tip, make sure you dress modestly as you will be denied entrance into St. Pete's Basilica if not properly dressed.
3. Dinner and drinks at the Jewish Ghetto -- Just tell your taxi that you want to go to the Jewish Ghetto. You'll be dropped off in a rather small square filled with the best food and drink in all of Rome. My favorite is the White Peach Bellini, a specialty in Italy.
4. The Catacombs -- Catacombs are an underground burial site. Just outside the city its possible to see the original burial tombs of St. Peter and St. Paul, before they were each re-interred in their current locations.
There are also several day trips you can take from Rome. We took a full-day trip with guided tour to Pompeii which also stopped for several hours in the coastal town of Positano. 10/10 would recommend!
